Medical Practice
Management tools include billing software and practical business aids and systems
to help health care providers with financial management,
file management, marketing, and human resource
management. Medical billing and practice management software increasingly
includes electronic health record features. These
functions meet HIPAA requirements. Health insurance
claims can be submitted electronically, for quicker payment
and less hassles.
These materials are supplementary to the general
professional practice management journal and monograph
literature that is collected by the National Library of Medicine
(NLM). They are often
issued in looseleaf, unbound, electronic, or audiovisual
format. Typically they are only useful when integrated
into a hospital or office setting. NLM selectively
acquires practice management tools if they are of
general interest to U.S. health professionals, contain
information not captured elsewhere in the literature,
and are issued in a format appropriate for a library
collection. NLM also collects materials that assist
practitioners with the application of classification and
coding systems. Collection emphasis is on publications
of major U.S. professional associations and trade
publishers.
